About the position

The Sustainment Engineer at Fluid Management is a pivotal role responsible for the management and oversight of engineering documentation for released products. This position involves reviewing active product and component drawings to assess opportunities for standardization, improvement, and optimization. The Sustainment Engineer will own and manage the process of improving and changing any active product design, ensuring that all changes are tracked and documented appropriately. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of engineering documentation and ensuring that all product designs meet the necessary quality and reliability standards. In this position, the Sustainment Engineer will be responsible for the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process for all released products. This includes ensuring alignment, information dissemination, approvals, implementation, and sustained improvement. The engineer will serve as the Operations subject matter expert for product design-related activities, which encompass drawing and blueprint updates, bill of materials (BOM), tolerancing, and drawing standards. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to resolve part or product quality or manufacturing issues through engineered solutions. The Sustainment Engineer will also translate production improvement user needs into clear, concise design requirements and concepts for both current and new product engineering. Maintaining and updating manufacturing documentation related to released products, such as drawings, procedures, and product improvement/change logs, is a key responsibility. The engineer will provide technical and manufacturing support to ensure that new and existing products are optimally designed for quality, reliability, manufacturing, and cost. Additionally, the Sustainment Engineer will lead root cause investigations for product quality problems and implement corrective plans to prevent recurrence. The role includes supporting continuous improvement activities, identifying operations and support cost reduction opportunities, and acting as a conduit between Manufacturing, Product Engineering, and Commercial team members. Regular presence in the plant is expected to facilitate effective communication and problem-solving. The engineer will also design, implement, and review procedures involved with manufacturing processes, including automation techniques to maximize production efficiency and optimize factory layout. Identifying new technologies that enhance safety and quality is also part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process for all released products to ensure alignment, information dissemination, approvals, implementation, and sustained improvement.
  • Serve as the Operations subject matter expert for product design related activity (drawing/blueprint updates, bill of materials (BOM), tolerancing, drawing standards, templates, etc.).
  • Support cross functional teams in resolving part or product quality or manufacturing issues through engineered solutions.
  • Translate production improvement user needs into clear, concise design requirements and design concepts for both current product engineering & new product engineering.
  • Maintain, update and own manufacturing documentation related to released products (drawings, procedures, deviation tracking, product improvement/change logs, etc.).
  • Provide technical and manufacturing support to ensure that new and existing products are optimally designed for quality, reliability, manufacturing, and cost.
  • Review, recommend, and implement updates to current product designs based on manufacturing, supplier, or customer needs.
  • Lead root cause investigations for the resolution of product quality problems and implements correction plans to prevent quality issues from re-occurring.
  • Support and contribute to the manufacturing engineering component of continuous improvement activities including Rapid Improvement Events (RIE) and Just Do It events (JDI). This includes identification of operations and support cost reduction opportunities.
  • Design, implement and review procedures involved with manufacturing processes, which also include automation techniques to maximize efficiency of production lines and the factory layout to optimize how products are manufactured.
  • Resolve issues and delays in production, while also finding ways to maximize quality through both process & people.
  • Identify new technologies that enhance both safety & quality.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Track record of usage/maintenance of Bills of Material and/or Parts Books for production components.
  • Experience working with ERP systems to track product routing and material management.
  • Strong technical writing in support of design inputs, design outputs, qualification activities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills with cross functional team.
  • Analytical skills with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience in engineering laboratories performing tests, evaluations of prototype devices and systems.
