About the position

The Senior Vice President of Accounting and Finance at Carter Funds LLC is responsible for overseeing and developing the real estate and fund accounting teams. This role is crucial for transforming and enhancing the accounting processes and institutional platforms within the organization. The SVP will lead a high-performing team, ensuring efficient accounting operations and compliance with financial regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a highly motivated accounting team through oversight, collaboration, training, and mentoring.
  • Plan and monitor staffing levels and labor utilization, using staff and outsourcing as needed.
  • Continuously evaluate accounting systems and processes to enhance cost efficiency.
  • Oversee accounting and reporting requirements for fund investments, including complex multi-tier investment entities.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements and client/partner reporting.
  • Manage fund-level reporting and coordinate client equity contributions and distributions.
  • Ensure management fee calculations comply with current agreements.
  • Analyze performance returns, advisor incentive fees, and acquisition/disposition fees on real estate investments.
  • Set up and review joint venture structures and related inquiries, subscriptions, and redemptions.
  • Review interest rate, currency, and credit swap calculations.
  • Review periodic P&L calculations at fund and investor levels.
  • Assist with internal and external property and client transitions as needed.
  • Administer audit and compliance matters for all Carter entities.
  • Train teams and oversee progress of multiple concurrent financial audits.
  • Facilitate the preparation and review of company federal tax returns and ensure timely filing of all tax forms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Strong leadership experience managing a team of 15+ accountants.
  • Outstanding management and organizational skills.
  • Experience in real estate accounting managing institutional capital providers.
  • Exposure to joint ventures and consolidations is a plus.
  • Multifamily real estate experience required.
  • Tax exposure is a plus.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Yardi Voyager and other Yardi products or comparable ERP systems.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to learn new accounting applications.
  • CPA certification required.

  • Experience with complex, multi-tiered entity structures.
