About the position

The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee programming strategies and content management for its networks. This role involves assessing, negotiating, and managing content from various sources, including films and television series, while collaborating with multiple departments to enhance audience engagement and retention. The position is remote with preferred locations in Los Angeles, NYC, and Atlanta, GA.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all facets of programming and staff, including supervision of network content and schedules.
  • Oversee program acquisitions, original programming, streaming content, program planning, and standards and practices.
  • Collaborate with ad sales, distribution, finance, research, marketing, legal, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyze linear and streaming audience data to inform programming strategy and execution.
  • Partner with Local Media leadership on content strategy for local needs.
  • Work closely with Scripps Sports leadership to execute programming strategies for sports content.
  • Lead content sales and licensing initiatives with domestic and international partners.
  • Maintain a strong pipeline of new content opportunities and manage all phases of licensing for exhibition.
  • Identify new content-based business opportunities and potential partners to drive audience growth and engagement.
  • Focus on the professional development of the programming team and foster a strong team culture.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience.
  • 20+ years' experience in programming activities, including strategic planning, developing originals, acquiring content, and scheduling for major television networks.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proven success using data to inform content development.
  • Ability to adapt rapidly in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Solid negotiation skills and knowledge of market license fees.

  • Familiarity with traditional and digital audience data and reporting tools.
  • Ability to communicate content performance to internal stakeholders.
  • Understanding of complex licensing and business development agreements.
  • Prior significant financial responsibility and budgeting acumen.
  • Ability to collaborate with finance on programming decisions.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on long-term goals and short-term achievements.
  • Awareness of market trends and competitors' offerings.
