About the position

The Swim Group Instructor at the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is responsible for teaching swim lesson programs while ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants. This part-time role involves direct interaction with children, promoting their swimming skills and safety in the water, and fostering a positive atmosphere in accordance with YMCA policies.

Responsibilities

• Teach YMCA swim lesson program classes for up to 12 children.
• Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool and surrounding areas.
• Evaluate student progress based on established criteria.
• Communicate effectively with students to ensure understanding of swimming techniques.
• Use positive motivation and teachable moments to promote character development.
• Observe swimmers' behavior and be ready to intervene in case of dangerous actions.
• Keep class organized and maximize swim time for each student.
• Maintain accurate attendance and class records.
• Clean the area after each swim lesson class.
• Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Proven knowledge of various swim strokes and teaching levels.
• Previous experience teaching swim lessons preferred.
• Strong vocal ability to project instruction clearly during lessons.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Must achieve YSL or American Red Cross certification within the first year of teaching swim lessons.

• Certification in CPR and First Aid.
