About the position

The Swim Lesson Instructor at the Newton YMCA is responsible for leading and assisting in group swim lessons, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment that promotes member wellness and engagement. This part-time role supports the YMCA's mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, while fostering authentic relationships with members and participants.

Responsibilities

• Leads/Assists energizing, fun, safe, and educational group swim lessons as directed by the supervisor.
• Asks and answers questions from program participants and their parent/guardian.
• Maintains working knowledge of swim techniques and swim lesson curriculum.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
• Celebrates achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills or overall ability.
• Keeps accurate class attendance records.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must complete emergency procedure training and all trainings designed for the position.
• Preferred certifications include CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
• At least one year of experience teaching group swim lessons preferred.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with swim team for at least 1 year preferred.
• Customer service experience for at least 1 year preferred.
