About the position

The Residential Support Specialist plays a crucial role in providing supportive services to adults with serious mental illness, ensuring a clean and organized living environment while assisting residents in achieving their individual recovery goals. This position involves medication administration, leading activities, and implementing treatment plan interventions, all aimed at promoting the well-being and independence of residents.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Oregon rules regarding Home and Community Based mental health services and assist residents in following a person-centered recovery plan.
  • Assist clients with daily living skills such as keeping appointments and completing household tasks.
  • Support clients in achieving individual goals based on their person-centered plans and Residential Service Plans.
  • Oversee house safety, including fire drills and resolving disputes among residents.
  • Ensure the facility is clean, orderly, and safe at all times.
  • Provide healthy meals and manage kitchen clean-up.
  • Encourage residents to participate in organized physical activities and promote healthy eating habits.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food storage areas, common areas, and employee office.
  • Assist residents with deep cleaning and laundry tasks.
  • Conduct contraband checks as allowed by residents and OARs.
  • Distribute medication according to physicians' orders and New Narrative policy, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Encourage residents to learn about their medications, including names, dosages, functions, and side effects.
  • Assist in crisis intervention and document all interactions with residents during each shift according to policy and Oregon Administrative Rules.
  • Complete shift summary and individual resident notes each shift, adhering to all New Narrative policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and capable of implementing emergency procedures and disaster plans.
  • Criminal records clearance through the State Mental Health Division prior to starting employment.
  • Tuberculosis testing within two weeks of hire.
  • Completion of a minimum of 16 hours pre-service orientation on relevant topics.
  • Regular in-service training totaling not less than 8 hours a year.
