About the position
The Assistant Teacher at the International School of Louisiana is responsible for assisting with the general supervision and management of a class, including individual and group instructions. The role emphasizes collaboration with the classroom teacher to implement the curriculum and support the school's Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS). The Assistant Teacher will step in for the lead teacher in their absence and assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, ensuring that students are actively engaged in the learning process. The position requires maintaining compliance with school policies and participating in professional development activities.
Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher to implement the curriculum
- Support ISL's Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) through 'pushing in' to the classroom and 'pulling-out' students for interventions
- Step in the role of the lead teacher in their absence
- Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment and needed materials
- Provide a positive environment for student engagement in the learning process
- Model professional behavior with students, parents, peers, and community
- Attend all staff meetings, training programs, conferences, and school functions
- Interact collaboratively with school site personnel
- Express thoughts professionally in oral and written language
- Maintain adequate technology skills
- Stay updated on current research and trends in education through professional development
- Document and report attendance as prescribed by the school
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
- Maintain compliance with all school policies and procedures
Requirements
- Associate degree and 3 years' experience working with children in an educational environment
- Target language proficiency where appropriate
- Self-motivated and accepts responsibility
- Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve school goals
- Effective multi-tasking and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and complete assignments within given parameters
