About the position

The anticipated position of Regular Teacher for Visual Art PreK - 8th grade at Ira Aldridge Elementary School involves a comprehensive set of responsibilities under the supervision of the school principal. The teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, ensuring that educational objectives are met through effective instructional planning and delivery. This includes the preparation of written lesson plans that align with the instructional program's objectives, establishing positive learning expectations, and evaluating pupils' progress while maintaining accurate records of their achievements. The teacher will implement various instructional methods, drawing from a range of available materials and contemporary principles of learning theory. Participation in the development and implementation of new teaching techniques is essential, as is the creation of engaging bulletin boards and interest areas that reflect the current work of pupils. The teacher will also be involved in programs aimed at improving student attendance and promoting anti-vandalism initiatives within the school environment. Classroom management is a critical aspect of this role, requiring the establishment of reasonable rules of conduct consistent with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code. The teacher will maintain accurate attendance records and seating charts, encourage student growth in self-discipline, and foster a positive self-concept among pupils. Communication with parents and guardians regarding academic progress, attendance, and conduct is vital, as is participation in in-service and professional staff meetings. The teacher may also coordinate and attend class field trips and engage in extracurricular and after-school activities, utilizing community resources to enhance the educational experience.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements.
  • Completion of all coursework required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) properly endorsed for this position.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
  • Knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
  • Ability to cooperate with school faculty and administration in program development.
  • Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, guardians, and community representatives.
