About the position

The Dedicated Special Education Aide at Ingenuity Prep plays a crucial role in supporting the academic and social-emotional development of students in grades 1-4 who require additional assistance. This position involves working closely with classroom teachers to create a positive learning environment and provide individualized support to students, particularly those with special needs. The aide will help implement instructional plans, support self-care activities, and maintain communication with families to foster productive partnerships. This role is essential in promoting a joyful and efficient classroom culture aligned with the school's mission of closing the opportunity gap in Southeast D.C.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one support for a student or students in grades 1-4.
  • Support the development of a joyful, efficient, learning-focused classroom culture in collaboration with classroom teachers.
  • Assist in promoting exemplary student growth both academically and socio-emotionally.
  • Support students with self-care activities.
  • Implement classroom instruction with fidelity to plans while being flexible to student needs.
  • Communicate and collaborate with families and students' influencers to cultivate productive partnerships.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in both formal and informal professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Dedicated Aide or Teaching Assistant in an Elementary School setting (at least one year preferred).
  • Ability to identify and solve challenges effectively.
  • Demonstrated track record of building a joyful, efficient, learning-focused culture with students.
  • High level of emotional, social, and cultural competency.
  • Familiarity with best practice instructional strategies.
  • Experience implementing IEPs preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching or educational support roles.
  • Strong communication skills with families and students.
