About the position

The SY'24-'25 History Teacher at UNIDOS Academy Lawrence High School is a full-time position focused on teaching high school history courses to English Language Learners (ELLs). The role aims to provide a rigorous instructional program that supports students who have recently arrived in the U.S. and are at the beginning levels of English proficiency. The teacher will collaborate with other educators to align curriculum with state standards and implement assessments to track student progress, while also fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach 5-6 sections of History: US History, World History, and/or a literacy/intervention class.
• Work collaboratively to align curriculum to the rigor of the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
• Implement common assessments that measure progress toward academic standards.
• Use data from formative and summative assessments to inform instruction.
• Meet weekly with a grade-level content team and an interdisciplinary cohort.
• Collaborate with Special Education, ESL, history, and other content area teachers to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.
• Participate in instructional coaching sessions to improve instructional practices.
• Act as advisor to a group of 12-30 students.
• Communicate weekly with students and families about academic and behavioral progress.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Appropriate Massachusetts DESE licensure required, including passing scores on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and relevant subject matter knowledge tests.
• Teachers should hold an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement.
• A minimum of one year teaching experience in a school setting is required.

Nice-to-haves

• Proven experience supporting English Language Learners.
• A minimum of two years teaching experience in a school setting serving a similar demographic preferred, but not required.
