About the position

The Bilingual Education Teacher at Chicago Public Schools is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students, particularly those who are limited English proficient. Under the supervision of the school principal, the teacher will develop and implement lesson plans that align with the objectives of the instructional program, adhere to Chicago Public Schools' policies, and comply with Illinois Learning Standards as well as state and federal laws. The role involves administering tests and language assessments to evaluate students' language abilities and assessing their progress within the bilingual program. The teacher will create a positive learning environment by establishing high expectations for student behavior and academic performance. This includes maintaining accurate records of student achievements, implementing effective instructional methods, and utilizing a variety of instructional materials. The teacher will also participate in programs aimed at improving student attendance and promoting a positive school culture, including anti-vandalism initiatives. In addition to classroom instruction, the teacher will communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding students' academic progress and conduct, and may coordinate class field trips and extracurricular activities. The position requires collaboration with school faculty and administration to develop and implement a cohesive educational program that meets the diverse needs of students. The teacher will also engage in professional development opportunities to enhance their teaching practices and contribute to the overall improvement of the school community.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework for the appropriate teaching license(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possession of the appropriate Illinois State Board of Education issued educator license with a bilingual endorsement in the grade level being taught.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching and classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Ability to cooperate with school faculty and administration in developing instructional programs.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
