About the position
The Senior Systems/Software Engineer role at Hewlett Packard Enterprise focuses on designing, developing, troubleshooting, and debugging software programs for enhancements and new products, particularly in the embedded Linux domain. This position requires technical leadership and collaboration with both internal and external development partners, ensuring that software systems meet quality, security, and reliability standards. The role is hybrid, requiring in-office work 2-3 days a week, and emphasizes innovation and integration of new technologies into projects.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical leadership of project teams responsible for all stages of software/firmware design and development.
- Establishes and manages relationships with internal and external development partners on software systems design and development.
- Creates and evaluates designs and project activities within the scope of a given product/architecture.
- Produces and independently manages work breakdowns and schedule estimates, executing to identified product schedules.
- Makes design and development tradeoffs within product/program constraints.
- Provides strong domain-specific expertise and software systems leadership to cross-organization projects.
- Drives innovation and integration of relevant new technologies into projects.
- Mentors earlier career staff members to aid in their growth and development.
- Delivers end-user products to specified scope and quality standards in alignment with product development schedules.
- Submits patent disclosures for product and technical innovations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- Typically 6-10 years of experience in software engineering.
- Excellent analytical and applied problem-solving skills.
- Experience in participating in the design of systems for products and solutions.
- Understanding of all phases of end-customer product development and delivery lifecycle.
- Working independently within a specified architecture in the design, build, integration, and validation of software systems.
- Demonstrated experience in software systems testing and associated methodologies.
- Ability to effectively communicate design proposals and negotiate tradeoffs with senior management.
- Ability to generate written documentation including problem descriptions and resolutions.
