About the position

Rapp GMC, a prominent automotive dealership in Syracuse, NY, is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Payable/Receivable Clerk to join their accounting team. This full-time position is responsible for managing day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of payables and receivables, and supporting the finance department in maintaining financial records.

Responsibilities

  • Process and review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval.
  • Prepare and issue payments via check, ACH, wire transfer, or other methods as required.
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and respond to inquiries regarding payment status.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Process incoming payments and apply them to customer accounts.
  • Generate and send out customer invoices.
  • Follow up with customers on overdue accounts and assist in collections.
  • Reconcile accounts receivable ledgers and ensure accuracy of payments.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies or payment issues.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
  • Support internal and external audit requests.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve financial issues.
  • Provide general administrative support to the accounting department as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in accounts payable and receivable or similar accounting role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with vendors, customers, and internal teams.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
