About the position

The Computer Programmer position at UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence is a part-time role focused on designing, developing, and maintaining software applications and systems to support the training needs of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This role is essential for driving technological advancements within the department, ensuring that software solutions are tailored to meet specific operational needs and support workforce development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and customize software structures, including e-learning platforms.
  • Install and maintain complex applications and software systems, including Adobe and Microsoft Office.
  • Write, test, and maintain high-quality code in programming languages such as Python, Java, and C++.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and test new software and operating systems to support departmental functions.
  • Solve hardware and software-related problems on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS systems.
  • Maintain viable independent backups of all projects and restore them as needed.
  • Prepare project reports and estimate time and effort for software tasks.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff members at various organizational levels.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to various audiences.
  • Work independently in a satellite location while managing multiple priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Programming or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Skilled in installing and maintaining complex applications and software systems.
  • Proficient in software development, including writing and maintaining code in various programming languages.
  • Knowledge of Apple hardware and software, including Mac OS and iOS.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows desktop and server operating systems, including Active Directory and DNS.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and implement solutions for hardware and software issues.
  • Working knowledge of backup techniques and protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for a professional environment.
  • Ability to create comprehensive technical documentation and use standard English grammar.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage changing priorities.
