About the position

The System Administrator position at ALTA IT Services in Bluemont, Virginia, is a contract-to-hire role that requires a skilled individual to provide comprehensive support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity and performance of the IT infrastructure, which includes various operating systems and applications. Candidates should be familiar with Agile methodologies, DevSecOps practices, and Continuous Deployment/Continuous Integration environments. The position demands experience in the installation and configuration of multiple operating systems, including Microsoft Windows Server 2008R2/2012R2, Windows 7, VMWare ESXi, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 6 and 7. Additionally, the role requires proficiency in COTS installations and support, as well as experience with backup solutions such as Veritas Netbackup and Symantec Backup Exec for effective data management and recovery. The System Administrator will also be responsible for Windows patching and management using Microsoft WSUS 3.0, and should have a working knowledge of shell scripting in both Powershell and Linux shell environments. Experience supporting multiple Microsoft Windows Server active directory domains is essential, along with a solid understanding of the full lifecycle sustainment of Enterprise Cyber Defense Infrastructure in support of Tier1/Tier2 CNDSP. Candidates must be able to obtain Security+ Certification within six months of their start date. Additional requirements include experience with NetApp Data Ontap Cluster Mode and 7-mode operating systems, as well as familiarity with SAN implementations and related technologies such as iSCSI and NDMP networking protocols. A good grasp of basic TCP/IP networking concepts, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, and effective communication abilities are also necessary for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in a System Administrator role.
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevSecOps, and Continuous Deployment/Continuous Integration environments.
  • Experience with installation and configuration of Microsoft Windows Server 2008R2/2012R2, Windows 7, VMWare ESXi, Red Hat ES 6 & 7.
  • Experience with COTS installations and support.
  • Proficiency in using Veritas Netbackup and Symantec Backup Exec for backups and image management.
  • Experience with Windows patching and management using Microsoft WSUS 3.0.

  • Experience with SAN implementations and related technologies such as iSCSI and NDMP.
  • Working knowledge of basic TCP/IP networking concepts.
