About the position

The System Administrator at Computer Technologies Consultants, Inc. (CTC) will support clients in San Diego, CA by designing, implementing, and managing lab infrastructure. This role involves building, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Linux servers and user workstations, as well as collaborating with cybersecurity staff to ensure compliance with security standards. The position requires proactive maintenance of Linux infrastructure to ensure continuous uptime and involves various system administration tasks to enhance stability, security, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Linux servers and user workstation hardware and software.
  • Design and implement workgroup-scale networks.
  • Manage authentication, file-share, and collaboration servers for heterogeneous client systems.
  • Develop and apply hardening steps for systems for classified use to ICD-503 security controls.
  • Document system configuration for new and existing systems.
  • Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to maintain a 24x7x365 uptime service.
  • Engineer systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Maintain best practices on managing systems and services across all environments.
  • Perform fault finding, analysis, and logging for performance exceptions.
  • Proactively monitor system performance and capacity planning.
  • Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, and hot fixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware.
  • Create and modify scripts or applications to perform tasks.
  • Provide input on improving stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment.
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.

Requirements

  • Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required.
  • Typically a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical degree.
  • Linux+, RHCE, RHCSA, LPIC-1, LPIC-2, or LPIC-3 certifications are preferred.
  • 5 years of experience as a Linux Administrator.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux distributions such as RedHat, CentOS, and Debian.
  • Familiarity with VMWare and virtualization concepts, Docker or Podman Containers.
  • Proficiency in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting.
  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, and SNMP.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to present information to diverse populations.
  • Ability to work well as a team member and independently.
  • Knowledge of virtual machine and cloud technologies, including scalability principles.
  • Experience with integrating Linux servers in Active Directory or using LDAP/Kerberos.
  • Experience installing and configuring services like httpd/Apache, vftpd, and sshd.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with enterprise-level Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
  • Experience with monitoring solutions like ELK Stack.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS): EC2, S3, and EFS storage.
  • Experience with DevOps and/or DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience implementing Ansible modules and configuration management with Git.
  • Knowledge of parallel system architectures and designing for high availability.
  • Familiarity with Agile design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of encrypted communications and information security policies.
