About the position

The System Administrator I - Clinical Communications and Mobility position is a critical role within the Health Information Technology Services (HITS) team, focusing on the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of server-level enterprise applications and medical devices. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the systems supported, as well as the ability to assess the impact of organizational changes on these systems. The System Administrator will serve as a vital link between various IT teams, including Radiology, Lab, and Pharmacy, ensuring effective communication and resolution of system issues. As a Tier-II support resource, the System Administrator will engage with other team members and resources as necessary, acting as a coordination point for issues related to systems across all IT teams. This includes maintaining usable systems for end-users, working with vendors and internal hospital teams to resolve system issues within established service level agreements. The role also involves maintaining thorough documentation of system configurations, contacts, and functionalities, as well as contributing to a knowledge base of troubleshooting tips. The responsibilities extend to planning and scheduling system upgrades and updates, ensuring compliance with organizational policies regarding system security, and verifying application logs to maintain data integrity. The System Administrator will also be responsible for ensuring that systems are backed up according to approved methodologies and that data can be restored in the event of a failure. Additionally, the role requires knowledge of application methods for managing print queues and the ability to create and distribute reports. The System Administrator will act as a subject matter expert for assigned systems, monitoring vendor roadmaps and maintaining effective communication with system vendors to ensure proper support. A strong technical foundation in databases, networking, hardware, software, and medical devices is essential, along with the ability to perform systems analysis for new requests. This position is vital for maintaining the integrity and functionality of clinical communications and mobility systems within the healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Tier-II support resource, engaging other team resources as necessary.
  • Function as a coordination point for issues related to systems between all IT teams.
  • Act as an escalation point for issues with assigned systems that cannot be resolved in TRC.
  • Maintain usable systems for end-users, working with vendors and internal teams to resolve system issues within service level agreements.
  • Maintain documentation on the systems' technical configuration, contacts, and functionality.
  • Contribute to and maintain common troubleshooting tips in the designated knowledge base.
  • Plan and schedule system upgrades and updates, coordinating with other HITS teams, vendors, and users.
  • Protect hospital assets and information by maintaining secure systems and following organizational policies.
  • Verify application logs and monitoring tools to resolve issues that could cause data integrity issues.
  • Ensure retention periods for application data follow hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Verify that systems are completing scheduled and approved backup methodologies and can be restored in case of failure.
  • Maintain knowledge of applications and functional areas entering application data, ensuring compliance with management approvals.
  • Manage print queues and printing workflow for applications.
  • Utilize application functionality to create, schedule, distribute, and print reports.
  • Model, design, monitor, and support system interfaces in conjunction with dedicated interface staff and other teams.
  • Resolve application, workstation, and server issues under stressful conditions, using appropriate escalation methods.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for assigned systems, monitoring vendor roadmaps and communicating points of interest.
  • Communicate effectively with system vendors to maintain working relationships and ensure proper systems support.
  • Perform analysis for new system requests, utilizing technical knowledge to ask relevant questions during systems analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer and Information Science or equivalent experience (2:1).
  • 3 or more years of experience in a related Information Systems field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer and Information Science.
  • 1 or more years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Technical certifications related to ITIL, Windows Administration, Linux Administration, or other IT or system-related fields.
