About the position

The City of Independence is looking for a motivated System Administrator I to join the Technology Services Department. This role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various network and IT systems while contributing to a culture of innovation and collaboration. The position will also provide opportunities to develop service delivery standards and act as a subject matter expert in technology systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in support and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, telephones, and networks
• Assist in designing, upgrading, and troubleshooting IT systems
• Assist in providing specifications for various technology systems' architecture
• Responsible for monitoring IT hardware operations to ensure proper configurations
• Prepare for and implement enhancements and upgrades to IT systems
• Advise network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations
• Evaluate and report on new technologies to enhance capabilities of the network

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable area of study preferred
• Minimum of two (2) years' professional experience with applicable technologies
• Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
• Applicable vendor-specific or similar certification preferred
• A valid driver's license is required
• Must complete required NIMS level training within the first six months of hire

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of vmWare Virtual Server Management
• Familiarity with Azure Principles
• Understanding of Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC)
• Experience with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) principles
• Knowledge of Network Security fundamentals including perimeter, endpoint, server, mobile, and cloud
