About the position

The System Administrator role at Paycom is focused on managing and maintaining both physical and virtual server environments, enterprise storage systems, and backup solutions. This position is critical for ensuring the stability, performance, and security of the IT infrastructure, supporting mission-critical systems, and enhancing operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a passionate technologist dedicated to continuous improvement and optimization of systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers according to internal customer requirements.
  • Install, configure, and maintain enterprise storage solutions ensuring efficient use of storage resources and data integrity.
  • Administer virtual environments using technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or OpenShift, ensuring optimal resource allocation and performance needs.
  • Develop and implement backup solutions, replication policies, and disaster recovery strategies to protect against data loss and ensure business continuity.
  • Configure and tune systems for best performance, following vendor or industry best practice guidelines.
  • Work support tickets, projects and tasks assigned to the System Infrastructure team.
  • Monitor system capacity, performance, and logs and provide reports for management's awareness into the technical health of Paycom's infrastructure.
  • Write and update documentation for day-to-day duties and team knowledgebase.
  • Develop scripts and use automation tools to improve operational efficiency and automate routine tasks.
  • Be responsible for and act as subject matter expert on any assigned systems.
  • Participate in on-call rotation responding to incidents and escalations as needed.
  • Work closely with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deploy new technologies, troubleshoot issues, and optimize systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in MIS, Info Sys, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of professional IT experience supporting servers and/or enterprise storage systems.
  • Ability to write technical design and build documentation for systems, storage and backup infrastructure.
  • Experience in monitoring and alerting tools and techniques for supporting systems.
  • At least one of the following certifications preferred: VMware VCP/VCAP/VCDX, MTA/MCSE or current equivalent, SCSN-E/EMCSA or similar storage certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge and administration of Windows or Linux server OS.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting technologies such as Ansible, PowerShell, Python, etc.
  • Data copy or replication tools such as robocopy, rsync, or emcopy.
  • Working knowledge of storage concepts such as RAID technologies, replication, and snapshots.
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, and RH OpenShift.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise storage systems and protocols (SMB/CIFS/NFS/iSCSI).
  • Experience with VDI/VMware Horizon.
  • Knowledge of rack and blade server hardware.
