About the position

GDIT is seeking a Systems Administrator IV in Laurel, MD. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in systems administration, specifically in providing support for the implementation and maintenance of IT systems. This includes managing day-to-day operations, monitoring system performance, and resolving problems as they arise. The role requires a deep understanding of Microsoft Windows servers, including installation, configuration, upgrading, and migration processes. Candidates should have practical experience with systems that interface with Active Directory, Exchange, and NetApp, providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support in a globally distributed enterprise environment. In addition to technical skills, the successful candidate will be responsible for running scripts to manage and automate tasks related to Windows platforms. They will also be involved in the deployment and maintenance of current and next-generation Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) desktops. Customer support is a critical aspect of this role, requiring effective communication through phone, email, and in-person interactions. The candidate should be adept at assisting end users with new desktop capabilities and software, demonstrating a strong aptitude for learning and mastering new applications and technologies quickly. The position demands excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Candidates must be capable of multi-tasking and prioritizing rapidly changing task assignments while resolving configuration and logistical issues using technical problem-solving skills. Overall, this role is vital for ensuring the security and efficiency of IT systems that support national safety and security initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Providing support for the implementation and maintenance of IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution.
  • Installing, configuring, upgrading and migrating Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 servers.
  • Troubleshooting systems that interface with Active Directory, Exchange and NetApp Tier 2&3 providing support in an enterprise level, globally distributed environment.
  • Running scripts to manage/automate tasks related to Windows platforms.
  • Deploying and maintaining current and next generation Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) desktops.
  • Providing customer support to include phone, email and in person contact as well as assisting end users with new desktop capabilities and/or software.
  • Demonstrating aptitude for learning and rapidly mastering new applications and technology.
  • Exhibiting excellent organization and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years' experience as a System Administrator providing support for the implementation and maintenance of IT systems.
  • Experience installing, configuring, upgrading and migrating Microsoft Windows servers.
  • Practical application and troubleshooting experience with systems that interface with Active Directory, Exchange and NetApp Tier 2&3 support in an enterprise level, globally distributed environment.
  • Experience running scripts to manage/automate tasks related to Windows platforms.
  • Experience with the deployment and maintenance of current and next generation Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) desktops.
  • Customer support experience to include phone, email and in person contact as well as experience assisting end users with new desktop capabilities and/or software.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for learning and rapidly mastering new applications and technology.
