About the position

Nisga'a Data Systems is seeking a highly skilled System Administrator IV to join our team in Sioux Falls, SD. This position is critical for performing system administration for various operating systems within an enterprise environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a server infrastructure that is predominantly virtualized, utilizing VMware, Hyper Converged Infrastructure, and Hybrid Storage Arrays. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the administration of DNS, DHCP, Active Directory (AD), and Internet Information Services (IIS). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system administration and a commitment to supporting our national defense and security missions across five continents. In this role, you will establish Windows file storage shares and folders with appropriate Access Control List (ACL) permissions, provide installation and configuration of VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V based virtual infrastructure, and support enterprise storage systems including NAS filers and SAN arrays. You will also be tasked with setting up, configuring, and documenting Windows server roles, tracking vulnerabilities, and performing necessary patching to comply with the requirements set forth by the Indian Affairs and the Department of the Interior. Your responsibilities will include systems management, monitoring, and upgrades of all applicable infrastructure management systems, as well as scheduling and running application jobs, developing customized reports, and supporting data extraction and manipulation requests. Additionally, you will utilize new data storage and replication technologies to ensure comprehensive data management, including full backups and disaster recovery processes. Monitoring server applications and system logs using various tools will be a key part of your daily activities, as will ensuring compliance with Indian Affairs configuration management procedures. You will work collaboratively with other staff to develop and document new procedures, provide day-to-day support of the Indian Affairs Active Directory, and implement and maintain security settings throughout the enterprise infrastructure. Your role will also involve user account management, performance tuning, and providing broad-based user support for end users, including troubleshooting and training. This position requires a proactive approach to managing systems and applications, ensuring adherence to established guidelines and procedures, and may involve writing or updating documentation as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Establish Windows file storage shares/folders with the proper ACL permissions.
  • Provide installation, configuration and monitoring of VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V based virtual infrastructure.
  • Provide primary support of Enterprise storage systems including NAS filers and SAN arrays.
  • Set up, configure and document Windows server roles including DNS, DFS-R, AD, WFS and DHCP.
  • Track vulnerabilities and perform ESXi and Linux patching to comply with requirements set forth by the Indian Affairs and the Department of the Interior.
  • Perform systems management, monitoring and upgrade of all applicable infrastructure management systems.
  • Schedule and run application jobs; develop and run customized and ad-hoc reports; and support data extraction and manipulation requests.
  • Utilize new data storage and replication technologies to ensure that all data is managed to provide full backup(s) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) and disaster recovery (DR).
  • Restore files and directories in response to user Service Center requests.
  • Monitor the server application, system logs using various tools such as Microsoft Operational Management server, VMware vSphere Operations, and Qwest Change Auditor.
  • Ensure that new systems follow applicable Indian Affairs configuration management procedures.
  • Work with other staff in developing and documenting new procedures.
  • Design, implement, and support systems in support of the Division of Systems.
  • Provide day to day support of the Indian Affairs Active Directory as defined by the Federal Functional/Task Lead.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining STIG settings throughout the Enterprise Infrastructure in accordance with security and operational standards.
  • Use life cycle development methodologies to analyze, develop, document and implement information systems.
  • Assist in the administration of the Indian Affairs enterprise, including user account management, data organization, performance tuning, and overall system operations.
  • Provide broad based user support for end users including troubleshooting, systems support, data management, collection, integration and training.
  • Work on projects involving any new or existing application implementations that require compatibility with Active Directory and impact assessment of proposed integration.
  • Administer Active Directory and application servers to ensure adherence to standards developed and implemented by Indian Affairs.
  • Utilize and administer centralized monitoring system to discover and deliver problem alerts, or potential problem alerts for the Active Directory, applications and IT systems.
  • Make changes to Indian Affairs production systems and applications, such as creating new accounts, scheduling jobs, password changes, and modifications to server configurations.
  • Ensure that all system administration activities follow established Indian Affairs guidelines and procedures.
