About the position

The Linux High Performance Computing Cluster Systems Administrator at Kriaanet Inc. is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and high availability of multi-user Linux workstation and cluster computer systems. This role directly supports engineers and scientists at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in their research on submarine acoustic signatures using high-performance computing platforms.

Responsibilities

• Maintains smooth operation and high availability of multi-user Linux workstation and cluster computer systems.
• Monitors and manages system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, network infrastructure, and response times.
• Performs systems security administration functions, including patching operating systems and software, updating cybersecurity virus definition files, and creating user profiles and accounts.
• Sets up administrator accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space.
• Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
• Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery.
• Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
• Utilizes tools such as WareWulf and SLURM for cluster and workload management.

Requirements

• Experience with Linux operating systems and high-performance computing environments.
• Strong understanding of system security administration and resource management.
• Ability to monitor and manage system performance and resources effectively.
• Experience with system documentation and user account management.
• Familiarity with workload management tools such as WareWulf and SLURM.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a research environment, particularly in submarine acoustic signatures.
• Knowledge of network infrastructure and cybersecurity best practices.
