About the position

The System Administrator role at ASRC Federal involves providing technical assistance and support for enterprise infrastructure solutions, focusing on automation, efficiency, and system maintenance in a Linux environment. The position requires a proactive approach to managing virtual infrastructure, vendor relations, and operational processes, ensuring high scalability and performance of mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance in projects, documenting outcomes and observations for continuous improvement.
  • Automate routine tasks with solutions such as Ansible and Terraform to decrease user wait times.
  • Evaluate current deployments, support expansions, and ensure that all solutions are highly scalable and vendor agnostic.
  • Identify and provide solutions that will increase the efficiencies of the overall infrastructure.
  • Contribute to and manage the entirety of the virtual infrastructure, reviewing current designs and implementing changes according to CAB.
  • Manage enterprise storage including designs, implementations, expansions, and migrations.
  • Deploy enterprise backup solutions across multiple programs, implementing required designs and validating solutions.
  • Assist in vendor management and building quotes and renewals.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership with multiple versions of Linux including RHEL, CentOS, and Rocky.
  • Support escalated trouble tickets for troubleshooting software, hardware, and networking issues.
  • Perform system maintenance and software installations in a Linux environment.
  • Install and maintain monthly security patches as required.
  • Develop and maintain thorough documentation of installation, configuration, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Multi-task and change direction as needed to meet customer needs.
  • Support management on technology direction, process development, and implementation.
  • Perform daily system operations and maintenance in a Linux environment.
  • Monitor health and performance of labs and support users in setting up test environments.
  • Generate operational processes for lab usage and support, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to the formulation of a vision and roadmap for non-production environments and support implementation.
  • Install and configure AFMS products within AFMS lab environments and customer sites.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering Management or related discipline, or equivalent related work experience and 2-5 years of related experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
  • Experience with various server types (web, file, license, application, etc.).
  • Experience with scripting (Bash, Python, PERL, etc.).
  • Experience with RHEL-based Linux distributions.
  • Experience with automation (Ansible preferred, Terraform a plus).
  • Experience with VMware vCenter and vSphere v6.5 or newer.
  • Experience with Containers (Docker, Kubernetes) a plus.
  • Knowledge of networking and TCP/IP.
  • Knowledge of patch management.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to coordinate several concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to interface with users in a pleasant and tactful manner.
  • Self-motivated and quick to learn new IT technologies.
  • Ability to occasionally work non-standard hours as required.
  • Team player with the ability to work well independently with limited direction.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
