About the position

The System Administrator (SA) at RWE Clean Energy, LLC is a pivotal role responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This position plays a crucial part in supporting the operations of all RWE power-generating assets in the Americas, ensuring minimal downtime which is essential for maintaining control over energy production. The SA will engage in technical research and development to foster ongoing innovation within the infrastructure, ensuring that all systems adhere to organizational values and standards. In this role, the System Administrator will maintain the lifecycle of systems, including patching, compliance, and capacity planning within the operational technology (OT) environment. The SA will be responsible for installing, monitoring, and managing Windows, Virtualized (VMWare), or Unix/Linux server infrastructure. This position requires collaboration with Project Managers to lead internal project initiatives, ensuring deliverables are met within deadlines. The SA will also manage incident tickets, investigate root causes of system failures, and propose corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Daily responsibilities include performing system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of hardware and server resources, reviewing system and application logs, and ensuring the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. The SA will also travel to various sites for upgrades and maintenance as needed, participate in vulnerability assessments and security audits, and assist in creating enterprise security documentation. This role demands a proactive approach to technical leadership and the ability to document operational processes and solutions effectively, contributing to the continuous evolution and learning of the environment and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the lifecycle of systems, patching, compliance, and capacity planning in the OT environment
  • Installs, monitors, and manages Windows, Virtualized (VMWare), or Unix/Linux server infrastructure
  • Lead internal project initiatives and work closely with Project Managers to understand deliverables and meet delivery deadlines
  • Performs installations, patches, upgrades, capacity planning, and performance tuning through approved change management mechanisms
  • Manages incident tickets to resolution within SLA and approves documented standards
  • Investigate the root cause of system failures and propose corrective actions to prevent future occurrence
  • Work within a global team, reporting to a regional lead and working closely with other technical teams supporting the Windows server fleet
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Travel to sites to perform upgrades and necessary maintenance when needed
  • Perform help desk tasks such as creation, maintenance, and completion
  • Participate in the design, execution, and risk mitigation regarding vulnerability assessments and security/regulatory audits
  • Participate in creating enterprise security documentation (policies, programs, standards, baselines, guidelines, procedures, and metric/key performance reporting)
  • Perform the deployment, integration, and configuration of security solutions and enhancements to existing information/operational technology in accordance with standard best practice procedures and enterprise security policy
  • Assist subject matter experts on compliance standards and application of associated requirements
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
  • Respond to Tier 2/3 problems/incident support requests
  • Ensures all corporate processes are adhered to, ensuring changes to the Enterprise Service infrastructure are fully documented and following the best practice principles of ITIL
  • Provide technical leadership to others across the organization
  • Following process documentation to complete scheduled tasks
  • Documenting operational processes and solutions in the knowledge base and other information repositories
  • Continued evolution and learning of the environment and infrastructure

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related degree can substitute three years of experience
  • System administration experience
  • Managing Windows patches using a centralized patch management software
  • System security configurations for Windows, Unix, and/or Linux systems
  • Active Directory and Group Policy Management
  • Design and Deploying Virtual and Physical computers/servers
  • Have a record of accomplishment in identifying and delivering operational improvements, both technical and process
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Certified Systems Engineer - MS preferred
  • Experience configuring laptops, servers, workstations, operating systems, and applications preferred
  • Familiar with VMware technologies preferred
  • Ability to self-learn new applications/technologies
  • Excellent analytical ability, consultative, and communication skills
