About the position

The System Administrator position at Joliet Junior College is a critical role within the Application Support Services department of the Information Technology division. This position is responsible for supporting the effective use of the college's administrative computer systems, primarily through system administration, business analysis, computer programming support, and software troubleshooting. The System Administrator will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to ensure that the college's goals are met through the efficient use of the ERP system(s). The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to enhancing the user experience across various departments. In this position, the System Administrator will assist in the development, analysis, design, configuration, testing, implementation, and documentation of computer-based applications. They will collaborate with the user community to integrate the college's ERP system functionality and improve related business processes. The role involves communicating with users to determine their programming requirements, investigating issues with current programs, and designing software solutions that meet user needs. Additionally, the System Administrator will be responsible for training personnel on new programs and systems, preparing detailed documentation, and supporting IT staff with the integration of new technologies. The System Administrator will also play a key role in the ERP modernization project, representing both functional and technical areas of expertise. This includes supporting the integration of new software functionality, maintaining dedicated databases, and serving as the primary administrator for Business Intelligence environments. The position requires a strong understanding of database maintenance, programming, and system security, as well as the ability to provide technical support to both IT professionals and end users. Overall, the System Administrator will contribute to the college's mission by ensuring that its administrative systems are effective, secure, and user-friendly.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, analysis, design, configuration, testing, implementation and documentation of computer-based applications.
  • Work closely with the user community to further integrate the college's ERP system functionality and improve related business processes.
  • Assist users with reporting requirements, applications development, and documentation.
  • Communicate with users to determine their programming requirements and investigate issues with current programs.
  • Design and program computer software to fulfill user requirements using proper applications development methodology and best practices.
  • Modify current programs to correct problems or to enhance programs to meet user current requirements.
  • Train functional area personnel on how to use new programs and systems.
  • Prepare detailed documentation of programs and systems.
  • Support IT staff with the integration of new technologies related to the current environment.
  • Maintain competency in emerging technologies related to the College's ERP systems.
  • Participate in the department and College's goals and objectives.
  • Communicate with users to determine their business needs and investigate existing solutions to satisfy those requirements.
  • Implement and configure new software functionality without customization when possible.
  • Support the ERP Modernization including representing the functional areas of expertise support like Financial Aid, account creation and financial services.
  • Support the ERP modernization representing technical areas of ownership slated to be replaced including CROA, Synoptix, and Formport as well as provide expertise for the integration portion throughout the project and subsequent implementation.
  • Populate and maintain dedicated databases (such as SQL) from the existing ERP (such as Colleague Unidata or Workday) environment using data extraction tools (such as Data Orchestrator and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio).
  • Primary Administrator for Business Intelligent environments (such as SAP Business Objects), from User Access and Security to Universe Design, Synoptix financial reporting, and Formport printing.
  • Secondary administrator and backup for Colleague Administrator when administrator not available.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and monitor hardware/software applications in support of the college's ERP system and maintain interfaces to other mission critical systems.
  • Provide technical support to IT professionals and end users as needed for the ERP system.
  • Maintain application system security as well as adding and removing users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, preferably in Computer Science/Information Technology or closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of applicable programming experience.
  • Two (2) years of Database maintenance experience.
  • Excellent problem solving, writing, interpersonal, and communications skills; capable of managing multiple simultaneous projects/initiatives; self-motivated, goal oriented, and very customer focused.
  • Proven experience to independently analyze and conceptualize system designs to direct and/or implement appropriate technical solutions and modifications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with supporting business (ERP) applications in a Higher Education environment.
  • Working knowledge of UNIX/Windows systems, databases and query languages.
  • Familiarity with Colleague software package and related database(s).
  • Experience with Colleague Studio, Envision Toolkit and/or Unibasic programming.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products, Web-based products and SQL reporting tools.
  • Experience with designing and creating databases with tools such as SQL Server Management Studio.
  • Experience with administration of Business Intelligent Tools and Databases including Security and user access.
  • Experience with Universe Design, creating joins and developing views.
  • Experience with Workday's cloud-based software package.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of computer systems design and architecture with an underlying understanding of the integration of systems hardware, software and networks.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.
