About the position

The System Administrator will function as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a diverse range of servers and applications within the Management Information Services (MIS) department. This role is critical in managing the overall health of servers, ensuring effective backup processes, monitoring system performance, providing application support, and performing operating system patching and updates. The System Administrator will collaborate closely with both internal and external third parties to deliver comprehensive technology solutions for the Authority. In this position, the System Administrator will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring a significant number of Microsoft Windows Server and Linux systems, ensuring their optimal performance and security. The role requires a solid working knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft directory services, including DNS, DHCP, ADFS, and Certificate Services, as well as proficiency in PowerShell scripting. Additionally, the System Administrator will manage local and wide area networking technologies, utilizing various network technologies to ensure seamless connectivity and performance. The position also demands familiarity with a range of system administration tools, such as PRTG, Trend Micro Security Products, LogMeIn, and ManageEngine Products. A strong technical understanding of server and network hardware, particularly Dell XC Series Servers, is essential. The System Administrator will also need advanced experience with virtualization technologies, including Nutanix AHV and VMware ESXi, and a solid understanding of Office 365 applications like Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint. The role includes addressing escalated helpdesk issues, creating and maintaining technical documentation, and collaborating with other departments to manage applications effectively. Regular monitoring of system backups, testing for functionality, and responding to security or usability concerns are also key responsibilities. The System Administrator will be expected to perform audits and remediate any identified issues in a timely manner, along with additional tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor upwards of 250 Microsoft Windows Server and Linux systems.
  • Manage Microsoft directory services and components such as DNS, DHCP, ADFS, and Certificate Services.
  • Administer and monitor local and wide area networking technologies.
  • Utilize system administration tools including PRTG, Trend Micro Security Products, and ManageEngine Products.
  • Manage virtualization technologies including Nutanix AHV and VMware ESXi.
  • Support Office 365 applications such as Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Address escalated helpdesk issues and assist helpdesk administrators as needed.
  • Create, update, and maintain technical documentation for applications and systems.
  • Monitor and manage backups for responsible systems, ensuring functionality through periodic testing.
  • Respond to security or usability concerns on a daily basis.
  • Upgrade systems and processes for enhanced functionality and security.
  • Review application logs and remediate reported events.
  • Perform required audits and remediate issues in a timely manner.
  • Complete additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of relevant work experience in systems and network operations.
  • MCSE or similar credentials preferred.
  • Experience supporting systems and network operations in medium to large organizations for 2+ years.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows Servers and supporting services.
  • Experience with Office 365, network monitoring, and support.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms including VMware and Nutanix AHV.
  • Recommended experience with Linux systems.
  • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere and as a self-starter with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass background and security clearance checks.

  • Experience with PowerShell scripting.
