About the position

The Systems Administrator (SA) will serve the RMCAD community by maintaining the technical infrastructure essential for the institution's operations. This role involves collaborating with the IT team to coordinate necessary changes to the infrastructure, which includes the replacement of aging servers, coordinating operating system updates, detailing resource needs, and planning future changes. The SA will also assist in developing resources for various IT and campus projects, ensuring that the systems are robust and reliable. When performed effectively, this role will ensure quality assurance for ongoing RMCAD System Operations through thorough research, development, and maintenance of the necessary infrastructure. The SA will work closely with support teams to address all systems-related issues, including licensing, server infrastructure, and communications devices. Additionally, the position will play a crucial role in planning future infrastructure changes involving RMCAD Systems, hosting, and support agreements. The position encompasses several essential duties, including the upkeep of RMCAD infrastructure, which involves inventorying, reviewing, and planning updates to existing server infrastructure. The SA will monitor and maintain necessary resource outage windows for installations, patches, or updates, and will audit and analyze campus licensing needs. Furthermore, the SA will be responsible for documenting standard operating procedures related to RMCAD Infrastructure for internal IT use and monitoring security threats to implement appropriate defense protocols. The role also includes coordinating business intelligence systems to ensure fast and secure access to accurate RMCAD information.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory, review, and plan all updates to existing RMCAD Server infrastructure.
  • Monitor, maintain, and schedule necessary resource outage windows for installations, patches, or updates.
  • Audit, analyze, and manage all campus licensing needs with the IT team.
  • Catalog, update, and generate documentation around standard operating procedures for internal IT use.
  • Monitor trends in security threats and execute appropriate defense protocols for RMCAD systems.
  • Coordinate business intelligence systems for secure access to RMCAD information.
  • Research, plan, budget, and install hardware and software to improve RMCAD infrastructure with third-party entities.
  • Assist with recycling strategies for IT equipment, including recycling efforts and campus sales.
  • Develop campus laboratory and office images for deployment during breaks and terms with the support team.
  • Provide tier two and three infrastructure support within the IT support team and support ticket system.
  • Assist in training staff of the TECHBAR on infrastructure resources for support purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Programming, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, storage architectures, Microsoft Server packages, and Google services.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows System Center Configuration Manager.
  • Cisco/Meraki Network experience.
  • Experience with various server operating systems including OSX, Windows, and limited Linux knowledge.
  • Imaging experience.
  • Broad technical skill set in database applications, system analysis, project management, technical wiring, information management, and print management systems.
  • Microsoft Certifications, ITIL certification, Cisco certifications, and SQL knowledge are beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
