About the position

The System Administrator position at BCforward is a critical role focused on supporting and managing IT systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including issue resolution, system configuration, and compatibility testing. This role requires a proactive approach to system administration, emphasizing the importance of maintaining system functionality and providing expert support to both internal teams and external clients. In this position, the System Administrator will work closely with the Customer's IT department, end users, and OEM vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively. The role involves performing integration and compatibility testing, as well as installing and configuring server software to meet the organization's needs. The System Administrator will also be tasked with reviewing ticketing systems to identify and address system issues, ensuring that all documentation related to processes and troubleshooting steps is meticulously maintained. Scheduled weekend work is a requirement of this role, as the System Administrator will provide support for server updates and disaster recovery testing. This includes being on standby for escalated support during critical incidents, acting as an escalation point for priority issues. Responsibilities

  • Manage issue resolution by collaborating with the Customer's IT, end users, and OEM vendors.
  • Perform integration and compatibility testing for system installations.
  • Install and configure server software as needed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on technical functionality and service support for all system functions.
  • Conduct triaging of issues to determine their source, whether related to output devices, card readers, or network/server issues.
  • Review ticketing systems to identify and resolve system issues.
  • Create and maintain documentation for processes and procedures, logging troubleshooting steps taken.
  • Support scheduled weekend work for server updates and disaster recovery testing, with advance notice requirements.
  • Act as an escalation engineer for priority 1 and priority 2 issues.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator or similar role in IT support.
  • Strong knowledge of server software installation and configuration.
  • Experience with issue resolution and troubleshooting in a technical environment.
  • Ability to perform integration and compatibility testing for IT systems.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and documentation practices.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with IT teams and end users.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with printer management and break/fix support.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware and software troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery processes and procedures.
