About the position

The System Administrator position at Owens & Minor is responsible for the operational and project-based management of infrastructure hardware and software environments. This role involves installation, configuration, support, and maintenance of servers, personal computers, applications, and network devices, ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems. The position requires strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage incident and request queues, along with on-call duties for system changes and failures.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, configuration, and support of servers, personal computers, applications, utilities, and network attached devices.
  • Conduct system failure analysis, recovery, and root cause analysis.
  • Assist senior System Administrators in developing standards and procedures.
  • Monitor vendor communications and sites for updates, patches, and firmware.
  • Schedule and apply updates to systems adhering to standard processes and policies.
  • Provide end-user support and manage incident/request queues.
  • Perform after-hours on-call duties as required.
  • Execute other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of varied system administration experience in areas such as Windows Server, Unix, and cloud services.
  • Experience with application automation and distribution tools like Bigfix and SCCM.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware/Hyper-V.
  • Knowledge of SAN/NAS, monitoring and alerting tools, and scripting/batch commands.
  • Experience with ticketing systems like Remedy or ServiceNow.
