About the position

We are in search of a Systems Administrator to join our team in the non-profit sector with 5 - 8 years of experience. This role offers a short-term contract employment opportunity. The successful candidate will bring skills in FreeBSD, Puppet Migration knowledge and experience in Puppet or another infrastructure-as-code technology, and VMware, and will be responsible for a range of duties related to system administration. The Systems Administrator will manage and maintain system servers, ensuring optimal performance and security. Utilizing Puppet for configuration management will be essential to streamline and automate repetitive tasks, enhance speed and productivity, and manage server configurations effectively. The role will also involve using VMware for virtualization, managing our virtual environment, and ensuring the effective operation of virtual machines. Employing FreeBSD as the operating system for our servers is crucial, as it ensures stability and reliability. The successful candidate will troubleshoot and resolve any system issues, working closely with the IT team and other departments. Regular updates to systems will be necessary, along with managing system backups and recovery. Implementing and managing user access controls and permissions to ensure system security is also a key responsibility. The Systems Administrator will regularly monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal speed and efficiency. Documenting all processes and actions taken to resolve system issues for future reference is important, as is collaborating with the IT team to plan, develop, and implement new systems or upgrades.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Systems Administrator in a non-profit organization is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of system administration for FreeBSD.
  • Demonstrable skills with Puppet for configuration management.
  • Proficiency in using VMware for virtualization.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with the non-profit sector and its unique IT requirements will be advantageous.
  • Must have a strong commitment to following ethical IT practices.
  • Ability to provide technical support and training to non-technical staff members.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
