About the position

In this role at BAE Systems, you will be part of a team responsible for supporting customers by designing, implementing, and managing lab infrastructure. Your primary focus will be on building, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Linux servers and user workstation hardware and software. You will also design and implement workgroup-scale networks and manage various collaboration servers to support diverse client systems. This position requires a strong emphasis on cybersecurity, as you will work closely with security staff to ensure compliance with classified use standards. The role demands proactive maintenance of Linux infrastructure technology to ensure continuous uptime and involves collaboration with other teams to develop automation strategies and deployment processes.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Linux servers and user workstation hardware and software.
  • Design and implement workgroup-scale networks.
  • Manage authentication, file-share, and collaboration servers for heterogeneous client systems.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity staff to apply hardening steps for classified systems.
  • Document system configurations for new and existing systems.
  • Proactively maintain and develop Linux infrastructure technology for 24x7x365 uptime.
  • Engineer systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Monitor system performance and conduct capacity planning.
  • Manage software upgrades, patches, and hot fixes on servers and workstations.
  • Create and modify scripts or applications to automate tasks.
  • Provide input on improving stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment.

Requirements

  • Top Secret/SCI security clearance required.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical degree.
  • 5 years of experience as a Linux Administrator.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux distributions such as RedHat, CentOS, and Debian.
  • Familiarity with VMWare, Docker, or Podman Containers.
  • Proficiency in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting.
  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, and SNMP.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with remote systems management via command line.
  • Hands-on experience integrating Linux servers with Active Directory or using LDAP/Kerberos.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with enterprise-level Windows Server environments including Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
  • Familiarity with monitoring solutions like ELK Stack.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) including EC2, S3, and EFS storage.
  • Knowledge of DevOps and/or DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience with implementing Ansible modules and configuration management with Git.
  • Understanding of parallel system architectures and high availability design.
