About the position

The System Administrator position at the University of Georgia's Division of Development and Alumni Relations is a critical role responsible for overseeing and maintaining the functionality of the division's computing systems. This includes a variety of tasks such as maintaining, configuring, and setting up servers or ERP solutions, managing user access to the Donor System and UGA Foundation Financial ERP, and ensuring the integrity and availability of financial data. The role also involves database management responsibilities, ensuring that data backups are viable, and maintaining web servers. The System Administrator will troubleshoot report errors and assist with help desk calls related to user and system problems. In addition to technical responsibilities, the position requires collaboration with other team members to leverage UGA-wide technology solutions. The System Administrator will be expected to monitor server and system performance, patch and upgrade operating systems, and develop standards for critical functions and services. The role also includes writing and maintaining documentation for setup, administration, and troubleshooting, as well as developing and maintaining procedures and scripts for change management and automation using CI/CD methodologies. The successful candidate will work in a standard open office environment and will be required to communicate effectively with internal staff, campus units, and alumni. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The System Administrator will also be expected to provide day-to-day technical support for IT team members and internal application developers, ensuring that the division's technology needs are met effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Administer production Windows, Linux, load balance appliances, and application software; Monitor servers, systems, and web site availability and performance
  • Administer multiple production and development SQL and MySQL instances
  • Patch/upgrade operating and application systems
  • Assist with developing standards for critical functions and services; execute recovery operations when necessary
  • Ensure best practice security is followed for systems and applications
  • Write and maintain documentation for setup, administration, and troubleshooting
  • Develop and maintain procedures and scripts for change management and automation using CI/CD methodologies and pipelines using Jenkins, GIT, Nagios, Ansible, etc.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software
  • Manage project and support requests
  • Assist managing division's GitLab environment
  • Assist administering the division's internally and externally hosted web servers and sites
  • Provide day to day technical support for other IT team members, internal application developers, and campus users; This can include utilizing a ticketing system
  • Provide day to day guidance and direction for users of the Foundation's financial accounting and donor systems
  • Research and resolve issues concerning the Foundation's financial ERP and donor application processing, working with vendors as appropriate
  • Track and resolve data processing issues within the Foundation's financial ERP system's Workflow application
  • Collaborate with other team members for management of the financial management system's processes and workflows and offer efficiency and automation improvements where appropriate
  • Troubleshoot, monitor, and manage the financial ERP system's services, working with the vendor as appropriate
  • Secondary responsibility with the UGA Foundation financial ERP system's data import and export processes
  • Deploy custom applications and code, striving to automate any repetitive processes as possible
  • Participate in financial ERP platform configuration, data migration, data validation, and building out configurable ERP solution to meet need
  • Work in cross functional teams to meet departmental and division technology requirements
  • Develop solutions for report or data access needs, explore or recommend technology solutions
  • Other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to, developing technical specifications for hardware need/upgrades, assisting with end user device support, and identifying emerging technologies

Requirements

  • Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and networking
  • Demonstrated skills with at least one server operating system (Linux, Windows)
  • Demonstrated skills with at least one hypervisor (VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix)
  • Demonstrated skills with change management
  • Demonstrated skills with SQL Server (2014+) and/or MySQL
  • Knowledge of application development methodologies
  • Demonstrated skills with a scripting language (PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
  • Demonstrated skills with cloud solutions (SaaS)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, campus units, and alumni
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
