About the position

As a System Application Engineer at Cisco, you will be at the forefront of developing cutting-edge next-generation high-speed interconnects for deployment in data centers globally. This role is pivotal in supporting both internal and external customers with all requests related to Silicon One high-speed interfaces, which includes the development of new features and addressing bug fixes. You will engage in a variety of tasks that are essential for the successful integration and performance of high-speed interconnect devices. Your responsibilities will include developing and executing electrical characterization testing for high-speed interconnect devices, ensuring that they meet the required specifications and performance standards. You will also support the characterization, validation, compliance, and system integration of Silicon One devices, working closely with various teams including ASIC, system, and signal integrity teams to evaluate design trade-offs and optimize design solutions. This collaborative effort will involve reviewing signal integrity and power integrity designs to ensure the highest quality of the final product. In addition to these technical responsibilities, you will be tasked with developing automation and analysis tools for lab measurements and data processing, utilizing programming languages such as Python and/or Matlab. You will drive methodology development, establishing best practices for Cisco's high-speed solutions and platforms to effectively handle different system cases. This role may also require travel to customer sites as needed, providing you with the opportunity to engage directly with clients and understand their needs better.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute electrical characterization testing for high-speed interconnect devices
  • Support characterization, validation, compliance, and system integration of Silicon One devices
  • Work with ASIC, system, and signal integrity teams to evaluate design trade-offs and optimize design solutions
  • Review SI/PI designs to ensure quality and performance
  • Develop automation and analysis tools for lab measurements and data processing in Python and/or Matlab
  • Drive methodology development, including best practices for Cisco's high-speed solutions and platforms
  • Travel to customer sites as needed

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 2+ years' experience in high-speed interface systems
  • 2+ years' hands-on experience in high-speed lab measurements, including usage of RF components and test equipment
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces and analog building blocks such as PLL, CDR, CTLE, DFE, FFE, and FEC
  • Programming experience in Python and C/C++
  • Experience working cross-functionally and collaborating with various technical teams
  • Strong documentation and technical communication skills
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

Nice-to-haves

  • MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 4 years' lab experience
  • Knowledge of IEEE 802.3 and OIF specifications
  • Signal integrity, DSP, and communication system background is a strong plus
  • Proficient programming skills in Python
