About the position

As a Systems Architect at Reality Labs, you will lead the architecture for upcoming AR/MR/Wearables products, driving the overall strategy and roadmap. This role involves designing, building, and testing prototypes for future consumer experiences in augmented and mixed reality. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to define and converge complex sub-systems and product architectures, pushing the boundaries of consumer AR/MR/Wearable systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support system architecture definition across one or more subsystems including compute/memory, displays/optics, EE, sensors, audio, wireless connectivity, I/O and firmware from initial conception through prototyping, product development, and production ramp.
  • Work with other system architects and SW engineering teams to understand and document requirements for workloads that need to be supported.
  • Maintain detailed specifications and assumptions for workloads to ensure common understanding and alignment across teams while implementing new features.
  • Conduct workload profiling to understand system resource utilization metrics for existing and new software features on target compute platforms.
  • Conduct detailed analysis and trade-off studies to inform architecture decisions.
  • Deliver engineering solutions for the most challenging architectural problems in early phase concept development.
  • Communicate technology and product strategy effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with management and cross-functional teams on long-term technology investments.
  • Create proof-of-concept physical prototypes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on blank-slate and early-phase prototyping and product exploration.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of industry product experience in electrical, systems or computer engineering.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or other related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience with architecture definition and/or systems engineering in one or more of the following areas: electrical, silicon, firmware, audio, sensors, wireless connectivity and displays/optical systems.
  • Experience with fundamentals in computer architecture.
  • Experience in prototyping and creating proof of concept models to share ideas and improve architectural decisions.
  • Experience communicating with cross-functional teams such as Product Development engineers, Product Managers and other hardware/software teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or other related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience in firmware development, programming, computer vision, OS, game development and complex sensing systems.
  • Experience modeling system power and using those models to inform trade-offs against key architectural decisions.
  • Understanding of memory subsystems including mass storage and filesystem as well as volatile memory, memory management and its impacts on overall system performance.
  • Experience with AR/MR or systems aimed at capturing/processing/delivering audio visual, IMU or other positional data streams.

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) plan
  • Paid holidays
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Professional development opportunities
