About the position

At Caterpillar Inc., the role of the Snowflake System DBA is pivotal in managing and optimizing Snowflake databases. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including monitoring database performance, implementing disaster recovery strategies, and providing Level 4 user support. The DBA will ensure that security controls are effectively in place to protect sensitive data and maintain compliance with industry standards. The successful candidate will be part of a global team dedicated to building a better world through innovative solutions and sustainable practices. The Snowflake System DBA will provide technical leadership across all aspects of environment management, which includes database lifecycle management, monitoring, support, and compliance. This role requires a proactive approach to researching new Snowflake features and tools, ensuring that the database environment meets customer needs while maintaining security. The DBA will also benchmark and suggest improvements to database support processes, enhancing customer experience and compliance requirements. In addition to technical responsibilities, the DBA will participate in and manage Snowflake-related projects, audits, and compliance reviews. They will develop and update documentation related to Snowflake technology and coach application support teams on changes and improvements. This position is not just about technical skills; it also involves strong communication and collaboration to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the process of optimizing the Snowflake environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize Snowflake databases, including monitoring and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership for environment management, including database lifecycle management and compliance.
  • Research new Snowflake features and tools to meet customer needs while ensuring security.
  • Provide 3rd and 4th level support for complex database issues.
  • Participate in and manage Snowflake-related projects, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Develop and update documentation related to Snowflake technology as needed.
  • Coach application support teams on Snowflake technology changes and customer experience improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and IT related experience
  • 1-2 years experience in Snowflake System Administration
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Basic understanding of data pipeline engineering and ETL/ELT tools
  • Strong programming skills in JavaScript, procedural SQL, and Python
  • Intermediate skills in database performance and SQL query tuning
  • Experience in database design and management
  • Basic networking experience
  • Knowledge of data warehousing principles
  • Experience with Data Visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau, Thoughtspot)

  • Experience with AWS and Azure
  • Experience in implementing machine learning models for data analysis and optimization
