About the position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is at the forefront of building some of the largest distributed systems in the world, and we are looking for a System Development Engineer to join our team. This role is critical as it involves working with Amazon's extensive database offerings, including Aurora, DynamoDB, EMR, OpenSearch, RDS, and Redshift, which are essential components of the internet today. As a successful engineer in this position, you will not only write code and troubleshoot issues but also engage directly with some of Amazon's largest and most demanding customers to address their specific needs across a comprehensive suite of services. You will dive deep into technical challenges and work diligently to enhance the customer experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong Linux and networking fundamentals, with extensive experience in large-scale, distributed environments. You will have a solid understanding of how servers and networks interrelate, and you will regularly participate in deep-dive troubleshooting sessions and technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root causes of complex issues. Additionally, a passion for coding is essential; whether building tools in Java or solving intricate system problems in Python, you will leverage technology to address challenges effectively. You should be well-versed in software development methodologies and adept at selecting the right tools for various tasks. In this role, you will think big and build solutions that can be deployed across thousands of devices. Your focus will be on improving and streamlining processes to facilitate work on a massive scale. It is important to note that this position requires the selected candidate to maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph, and to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work. Joining our team in Herndon, VA, presents an excellent opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented engineers and technical managers in the industry. You will have the chance to develop your skills and advance your career within one of the most innovative and progressive technology companies in the world. We pride ourselves on our inclusive team culture, where we embrace our differences and are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion.
