About the position

This position offers an exciting opportunity to join Amazon's world-class technical team in Columbia, MD, where you will collaborate with some of the brightest engineers and technical managers in the industry. As part of Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will be involved in building and managing some of the largest distributed systems globally, contributing to critical database offerings such as Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, EMR, RDS, and Redshift. These services are essential components of the internet today, and your role will be pivotal in ensuring their reliability and performance. A strong foundation in Linux and networking fundamentals is crucial, as you will be working in a large-scale, distributed environment. In addition to technical skills, a passion for coding is essential. Whether you are building tools in Java or solving complex system problems in Python, you will leverage technology to address challenges effectively. You will also be tasked with thinking big, as you will build and deploy solutions across thousands of devices, continuously striving to improve and streamline processes for massive-scale operations. This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph, and candidates must be willing to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and technical managers to develop and manage distributed systems.
  • Conduct deep-dive troubleshooting and technical post-mortem discussions to identify root causes of complex issues.
  • Build and deploy solutions across thousands of devices to improve and streamline processes.
  • Utilize coding skills in languages such as Java and Python to solve system problems and build tools.
  • Work within a large-scale, distributed environment, applying strong Linux and networking fundamentals.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 1+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • 5+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems, and hands-on systems engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals including networking, storage, and operating systems.
  • Currently hold an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
  • Bachelor's degree.
