About the position

The Enterprise Database Engineer will engage with a diverse range of customers to design and implement enterprise database solutions using Esri technology. This role involves consulting with clients to understand their business and technical needs, developing data management strategies, and executing these strategies throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires collaboration with project teams to configure geospatial database management systems that enhance customer workflows across various applications.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with customers and partners to identify, design, and validate key GIS workflows
  • Develop enterprise database design and implementation strategies
  • Design logical and physical geodatabase models to support requirements following Esri and industry best practices
  • Configure enterprise geodatabase maintenance and tuning strategies
  • Present complex GIS technical demonstrations to various levels of staff in a diverse range of customer organizations
  • Collaborate with software development teams to help improve Esri capabilities and customer experience
  • Use consulting skills to support teams during all phases of implementation including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in database architecture and administration for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP Hana
  • Demonstrated experience with database design, data loading techniques, physical storage, backup/recovery strategies and data retention solutions, data security, and enterprise database maintenance and tuning
  • Demonstrated experience with geoprocessing tools, tasks, and ModelBuilder
  • Programming and scripting experience with Python and SQL
  • Familiarity with performance assessment and tuning techniques
  • Familiarity with geospatial and mapping concepts such as spatial types, spatial analysis, map projections, and more
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical project managers or customers
  • US citizenship and willingness and ability to obtain a public trust background investigation or security clearance
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related STEM field

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of GIS integration with other enterprise systems
  • One or more industry-standard IT certifications (such as Esri, CompTIA, Microsoft, Amazon, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
  • Master's in Computer Science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related STEM field
