About the position

The System Engineer, Level III position involves managing and leading systems engineering efforts within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. The role requires extensive experience in systems engineering, particularly in planning, documentation, and integration of complex hardware/software systems. The engineer will work on-site in a SCIF environment, ensuring compliance with established requirements and contributing to the development of system architecture and design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of production systems compatible with defined system architectures.
  • Contribute to the development of systems engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans and Requirements Specifications.
  • Assist with the development of system requirements and allocation to hardware, software, and personnel components.
  • Coordinate the resolution of action items from various reviews requiring cross-discipline coordination.
  • Participate in an Integrated Product Team to design new capabilities based on operational considerations.
  • Allocate real-time process budgets and error budgets to systems and subsystem components.
  • Generate alternative system concepts and design solutions.
  • Define methods and evaluation criteria for verifying systems against their requirements.
  • Develop system design solutions that satisfy system requirements and fulfill functional analysis.
  • Review and provide input to program and contract work breakdown structures and integrated master plans.
  • Participate in interface definition and changes to configuration throughout the lifecycle.
  • Derive lower-level requirements from higher-level allocated requirements ensuring completeness and correctness.
  • Establish and gain approval of system definitions under development.
  • Develop derived requirements for Information Assurance Services and Security Mechanism Technology.
  • Implement comprehensive SOA solutions and applicable DoDAF standards.
  • Review and approve system engineering documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assess risks to the program and determine the probability of occurrence and consequences of failure.
  • Plan verification efforts of new designs early in the development lifecycle.
  • Prepare time-line analysis diagrams illustrating time-dependent functions.
  • Establish a process to control and manage changes to requirements and ensure traceability.
  • Manage and ensure the technical integrity of the system baseline over time.
  • Support planning and test analysis of the DoD Certification/Accreditation Process.
  • Provide technical direction for the development and integration of complex systems.
  • Develop scenarios and an Operational Concept that satisfies operational needs.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis in non-functional system performance areas.
  • Establish a formal procedure for coordinating system integration activities among multiple teams.
  • Conduct and/or approve end-to-end system trade analyses to optimize system operations.
  • Ensure effective review and control of the evolving configuration of a system during its lifecycle.
  • Serve as a member of the Configuration Control Board (CCB).
  • Develop system design alternatives considering lifecycle cost and risk.
  • Recommend preferred solutions based on selection criteria during Analysis of Alternatives (AoA).
  • Improve standard integration strategies based on previous decisions.

Requirements

  • Twenty (20) years' experience as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and leading Systems Engineering efforts.
  • Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or equivalent experience).
  • Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph.
