About the position

The Director of Finance will work in close collaboration with the Vice President of Finance/Controller to oversee system level finance operations for areas assigned. Supervises two or more functional area teams. Develops staff and supports continuous improvement of department processes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate general accounting policies and operational finance functions as assigned.
  • Provide leadership and direction within and between various finance teams.
  • Ensure integrity of accounting records and processes.
  • Create necessary internal control environment and control activities to protect the organization from financial misstatement or fraud.
  • Monitor and evaluate standards and guidance of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and interpret their relevance and application to Essentia Health’s accounting, reporting, and disclosure requirements for assigned areas.
  • Ensure effective working relationships within the Controller team and interdepartmentally across the organization.
  • Lead and participate in interdisciplinary committees and projects throughout the organization as assigned.

Requirements

  • Eight or more years of progressive healthcare industry finance/accounting experience, with at least three years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong contemporary knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) financial reporting and systems.
  • Ability to effectively manage working relationships through strong communication skills and high emotional intelligence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Public accounting experience conducting audit and assurance engagements.
  • Experience leading remote teams in a large matrixed organization, preferably healthcare industry.
  • Experience with large-scale enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and support.
  • Change agent, capable of building and delivering compelling presentations and influencing leadership.
