The System Instrument Design Architect Engineer plays a crucial role within the HWTE Electrical Engineering Instrument Team at Apple, focusing on the development of innovative test instrument solutions for the electrical performance of iOS devices. This position is responsible for architecting new instruments from the early concept phase through to detailed block diagrams that can be executed. The role requires close collaboration with both internal and external technology teams, including silicon and module development teams, to explore new features and improvements. The candidate will be involved in defining key instruments and/or chipset selections while determining instrument capabilities and trade-offs. The ideal candidate will possess strengths across several functional areas, enabling them to lead, drive, or influence instrument module roadmaps and feature definitions. Experience in analyzing systems and making architectural and implementation trade-offs is essential. The role also involves designing dedicated, high-quality, low-cost instrument solutions, scoping component area requirements, interconnect requirements, and addressing integration challenges. Key areas of focus include Signal & Power integrity, Electromagnetic coexistence, and power budgeting and analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as the position requires effective collaboration and influence across various teams. Responsibilities include reviewing and influencing module roadmaps, staying current with technology trends, and collaborating with other module and software teams. The engineer will work with cross-functional engineering managers and architects on hardware/software enabling technologies, build internal and external instrument specifications, and review system DFT decisions. Additionally, the role involves defining, simulating, and modeling product performance against power, area, cost, and schedule, as well as developing and applying tools and scripts for system modeling and analysis. The engineer will assess and supervise product system integration risks and implementation trade-offs, utilizing schematic and layout tools such as Cadence Concept & Allegro, and developing novel methods of pre-route mentorship. The position may also require some domestic and international travel for prototyping, bring-up, and debugging activities.
