About the position

At Viasat, we are on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. As a System Integration and Test Engineer, you will be involved in a variety of tasks including system test and verification of communications systems, design implementation, system/algorithm simulation, and automation. You will work in a fast-paced environment as part of a well-established team, collaborating closely with hardware design engineers, software developers, and system engineers to tackle issues and improve system performance. Your role will require you to learn how the system functions from high-level concepts to the lowest layers, allowing you to witness firsthand how the underlying technology is implemented to build sophisticated products. You will use your technical knowledge and creativity to craft new test methodologies and improve existing procedures to verify system requirements. This includes completing various tests, analyzing data, and documenting detailed results. Your participation in the development cycle with various systems and subsystems will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the entire system, opening up many career growth opportunities within Viasat, including test automation, system engineering, and software development. This position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, along with at least 3 years of integration and test experience. You will need to have knowledge in communications (RF, digital, optical) and networking (TCP/IP), as well as software programming/scripting/automation skills in Python or other programming languages. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in both large and small teams are essential. Additionally, you must be a U.S. citizen and willing to acquire a U.S. Secret Clearance, with the ability to work out of our Germantown, MD location and travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct system test and verification of communications systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of integration and test experience.
  • Knowledge in communications (RF, digital, optical) and networking (TCP/IP).
  • Software programming/scripting/automation skills in Python or other programming languages (Perl, Jenkins, MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Experience with debugging and problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work optimally in large or small teams, or individually.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools suite.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Willingness to acquire U.S. Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to work out of our Germantown, MD location.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in communications systems.
  • Hands-on experience with commonly used communications, RF and electrical test equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, traffic generator, etc.).
  • Experience with Linux operating systems (embedded preferable).
  • Skilled in system testing and verification, especially in developing test plans and test procedures, and requirement tracking and traceability tools (e.g. Jira, Jama).
  • Experience with automation frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, Selenium).
  • Curiosity about future leadership opportunities and 2+ years of leadership experience.
