About the position

The Systems Integration Engineer/Scientist 1 at Illumina plays a crucial role in developing genomic analysis tools that are essential for scientific and clinical research. This position involves hands-on testing and integration of hardware, software, and chemistry components to ensure the delivery of high-quality products that enhance genomic technology access and health equity globally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on testing of end-to-end sequencing application workflows for whole genome and whole transcriptome analysis.
  • Reliably execute experiments and test plans, collect data, summarize results, and report issues.
  • Regularly communicate experimental results and observations in group settings.
  • Contribute to investigations of technical issues and independently work on defined scope problems.
  • Follow standard procedures and protocols to support verification and validation activities.
  • Operate systems with a customer point of view to assess usability, safety, data quality, and efficiency of workflows.
  • Contribute to the content of user guides.
  • Instruct others in system operation and data analysis with increasing proficiency.
  • Track and maintain lab supplies and consumable inventory for projects.

Requirements

  • A basic understanding of sequencing systems and at least one application.
  • Ability to describe the steps and components required to execute a complete end-to-end workflow, including sample library preparation, sequencing, and analysis.
  • Basic molecular biology wet laboratory experience, including pipetting and working with DNA and RNA.
  • Direct experience with qPCR or library preparation is a plus.
  • Interest in data analysis and statistics.
  • Programming experience is strongly desired (Python, Perl, LabView, etc.).
  • A desire to be a part of a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, and dynamic environment.
  • Solid communication and writing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with qPCR or library preparation.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python, Perl, or LabView.
