About the position

As a Systems Engineer Advisor at GDIT, you will deliver innovative solutions to complex problems, focusing on managing data flows for various devices. Your role will involve designing system architecture, utilizing tools like Apache NiFi and Python, and ensuring the security and efficiency of data movement across networks. You will also engage in technical discussions and propose optimizations to enhance data flow processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and define system architecture for new or existing computer systems.
• Manage data flows for a wide range of devices using Apache NiFi and Python.
• Build Grafana dashboards to visualize data flow metrics and infrastructure status.
• Interface with various API endpoints and maintain holistic diagrams of each data flow.
• Develop and sustain intricate data flows from multiple sources leveraging Apache NiFi.
• Utilize Python for data manipulation and transformation of legacy Java implementations.
• Engage in weekly engineering review board sessions to provide technical insights.
• Analyze current data flows for inefficiencies and propose optimized remedies.
• Design secure cross-domain channels for data movement between networks of varying security levels.
• Document new and existing data flows using Microsoft Visio.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in a relevant field.
• 5+ years of related experience in systems engineering.
• Must be 8570 compliant (IAT Level 2) by the date of security indoctrination.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with designing and sustaining data flows using Apache NiFi.
• General networking knowledge including operation of routers, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, VPN, and web proxies.
• Working knowledge in the design and utilization of RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency in managing and maintaining both Windows and Linux operating environments.
• Familiarity with relational SQL databases, including Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
