About the position

The System Operations Outage Coordinator is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing system operation and outage coordination for the Transmission System Operation Department at the Grand River Dam Authority. This position ensures compliance with SPP, NERC, and FERC requirements to maintain the reliability of the Bulk Electric System. The coordinator leads large projects, manages switching orders, and collaborates with various teams to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large projects related to planned construction or maintenance, ensuring operational perspectives are covered.
  • Coordinate clearances to maintain a safe, de-energized work environment for crews.
  • Receive and assess switching requests, meeting with construction crews or engineers to determine necessary clearance points.
  • Ensure load remains energized during outages and coordinate outages to avoid conflicts with existing or planned outages.
  • Write or assign switching orders in iTOA and coordinate their execution in the field.
  • Maintain equipment database and customize user features as the iTOA administrator.
  • Work with SCADA support staff to develop and modify SCADA functionality, modules, and displays.
  • Cover shifts on the Transmission desk as needed for operator absences or during outage/storm restoration.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal/external groups to ensure compliance and achievement of established goals.
  • Perform NERC TADS reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an electrical field or equivalent electrical industry experience.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license or ability to convert within 30 days for out-of-state residents.
  • Current NERC certification as a System Operator.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical generation, transmission, and distribution practices, principles, and theory.
  • Ability to operate SCADA computer equipment related to a NERC-Certified Energy Control Center.
  • Functional competency with personal computers, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Excellent writing, composition, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment and exercise good judgment under time constraints.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SCADA systems and energy control centers.
  • Familiarity with energy marketing accounting practices.
