About the position

The System Programmer/Administrator position is a permanent, full-time role within the Office of OneIT at the University, specifically under the Research Computing team. This team is dedicated to providing high-performance computing services to researchers, ensuring that the university's IT infrastructure is robust and reliable. The primary purpose of this position is to support the ongoing operation of the Research Computing facilities, which includes systems management, maintenance, and the development and deployment of upgraded capabilities. The individual in this role will interact with users to provide support and ensure that their computing needs are met effectively. As a key team member, the System Programmer/Administrator will report directly to the Director of University Research Computing. This position is critical in managing the university's research computing systems and will involve performing operational duties that are delegated from the Director. The role also contributes to shaping the strategic direction of the Research Computing initiatives, ensuring that the university remains at the forefront of technological advancements in research computing. In addition to technical responsibilities, this position may involve providing leadership or supervision to other staff members, guiding them in their technical work. The successful candidate will be expected to support technical design and strategy development, ensuring that the systems in place are not only functional but also aligned with the university's research goals. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of the university's research computing resources, making it a vital part of the OneIT division.

Responsibilities

  • Support ongoing operation of the Research Computing facilities including systems management and maintenance.
  • Develop and deploy upgraded capabilities for research computing.
  • Interact with and support users of the research computing facilities.
  • Support technical design and strategy development for research computing initiatives.
  • Direct technical work of other staff members as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3-5 years of relevant work experience, including 1-3 years of Linux Systems Administration experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with high-performance computing systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing technologies.
  • Knowledge of programming languages relevant to systems administration.
