About the position

The System Safety Engineer at EXB Solutions will play a crucial role in developing and managing the aircraft system safety methodology for a new military development program. This position involves identifying and analyzing potential hazards throughout the design, operation, and maintenance phases, ensuring the safety and integrity of air vehicle systems. The role emphasizes the use of emerging safety techniques, including Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and requires effective communication with both internal teams and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, defining, and verifying System Safety requirements and Safety hazard analysis artifacts to ensure design integrity.
  • Working with the engineering team to ensure air vehicle safety of flight.
  • Influencing air vehicle design to improve system and software safety features and design.
  • Supporting air vehicle Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts.
  • Identification and analysis of potential hazards from concept definition through development, production, and product fielding.
  • Developing fault management techniques for complex airborne electronic hardware and software.
  • Performing hazard analyses to identify potentially hazardous conditions and recommend actions to minimize hazards.
  • Performing System Safety Hazard Analysis, developing analysis reports, and providing validation/verification of requirements.
  • Administering System Safety activities on assigned engineering design teams and interfacing with customers on Safety related issues.
  • Representing Bell with military/industry at System Safety Working Groups and Aircraft Working Groups.
  • Reviewing documents related to System Safety Engineering IAW AMCOM Regulation 385-17.
  • Providing guidance to Bell engineering teams and suppliers on System Safety Engineering.

Requirements

  • At least 7+ years of experience in Safety Engineering in the Aerospace industry.
  • Experience in development of Functional Hazard Analysis, Software Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis, and Safety Assessment Reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated communication skills to brief management and customers.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-882E System Safety Programs and risk assessment process.
  • Experience with SAE ARP4761 and Safety aspects of SAE ARP4754A.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of experience in Safety engineering in the aerospace industry on military applications.
  • Aircraft system requirements development or verification experience per SAE ARP-4754A.
  • Familiarity with Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA).
  • Familiarity with military Software System safety guidance.
  • Experience with quantitative reliability and maintainability analysis.
  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Systems Modeling Language (SysML).
  • Experience with software development per RTCA DO-178C or complex hardware development per RTCA DO-254.
