About the position

The System Safety Engineer at Bell is responsible for managing lifecycle risks associated with aircraft systems through a standardized methodology. This role involves collaborating with various engineering teams and operational personnel to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential hazards throughout the development and operational phases of aircraft. The engineer will ensure safety requirements are met and will support the development of safety analysis artifacts, contributing to the overall safety management of the aircraft systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective systems safety engineering efforts are conducted through identification and analysis of potential hazards from concept definition through development, production, product fielding and lifetime sustainment.
  • Identify and evaluate hazards both qualitatively and quantitatively, performing detailed analysis of aircraft systems and subsystems.
  • Plan, define and verify system safety requirements and develop safety analysis artifacts to ensure design integrity and safety.
  • Administer system safety activities for assigned program Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and interface with customers on safety-related issues.
  • Communicate system safety engineering approaches and analyses results to internal and external customers to ensure all hazards are identified and mitigated effectively.
  • Support the development and application of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and model-based safety analysis (MBSA) practices.
  • Support Bell's Safety Management System (SMS) for the control, management, and tracking of program risks.
  • Establish software safety requirements and evaluate the functional impacts of noncompliance.

Requirements

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with civil safety processes defined in SAE ARP-4761 and ARP-4754 and/or defense safety processes defined in MIL-STD-882.
  • Direct experience in SAE ARP4761 analyses such as Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Assessments, Safety Assessments, and Risk Analysis.
  • Direct experience in MIL-STD-882 analyses including Preliminary Hazard Analysis and Health Hazard Analysis.
  • Experience or training in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and model-based safety analysis (MBSA).
  • Experience with software safety standards and requirements across the full development lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication skills to build and maintain effective relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Technical and functional understanding of aircraft and aircraft systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Operational understanding of aircraft, aircraft systems, and related support systems is highly desirable.
