About the position

The System Support Administrator at the University of Missouri is responsible for overseeing the MUIDSI/DSA research and computing systems, ensuring the installation, configuration, and maintenance of various network and server infrastructures. This role involves system administration, security, hardware sourcing, and capacity planning, with a focus on managing advanced learning technology infrastructure within the DSA program and the larger MU Informatics Institute.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general oversight of MUIDSI/DSA research and computing systems.
  • Install, configure, and maintain local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and data communications network.
  • Administer physical and virtual servers, including Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Oversee Jupyter learning infrastructure and container cluster for course delivery.
  • Maintain discussion boards on MS Teams and version control via GitLab.
  • Coordinate with MU DoIT-RCSS for virtual machine infrastructure management.
  • Perform system monitoring and verify integrity and availability of hardware and network resources.
  • Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs.
  • Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access.
  • Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses.
  • Perform database administration and support tasks for PostgreSQL and other DBMS platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in Linux System Administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • 5 years' experience administering Linux or other enterprise computing systems.
  • Experience with virtual machines and virtual cyberinfrastructure.
  • Experience with Jupyter and Git.
  • Experience with database administration.
