About the position

The Support Systems Administrator will provide oversight of key research and computing systems within the MUIDSI/DSA program at the University of Missouri. This role focuses on the installation, configuration, and maintenance of various network and server infrastructures, ensuring the integrity and availability of resources for academic and research purposes. The position aims to manage advanced learning technology infrastructure to support the rapidly growing DSA program and the larger MU Informatics Institute.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general oversight of MUIDSI/DSA research and computing systems.
  • Install, configure, and maintain local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and data communications network.
  • Administer operating systems, physical and virtual servers, and Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Oversee Jupyter learning infrastructure and container cluster for scalable course delivery.
  • Maintain discussion boards on MS Teams and version control via GitLab.
  • Coordinate with MU DoIT-RCSS to manage virtual machine infrastructure.
  • Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources.
  • Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including backups.
  • Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access.
  • Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses.
  • Perform database administration and support tasks for PostgreSQL and other DBMS platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in Linux System Administration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • 5 years' experience administering Linux or other enterprise computing systems.
  • Experience with virtual machines and virtual cyberinfrastructure.
  • Experience with Jupyter and Git.
  • Experience with database administration.
